Basics of designing a successful logo
Logo is the trademark that represents your business. A successful logo is the halfway point for a good Branding, the starting point for building a consistently successful strategy for your corporate identity.
The logo design, following specifications, should be fully adapted to the style and the general philosophy of your business, while at the same time being memorable.
→ When the time for the recognition of your brand comes, the first thing that comes to your customers’ minds, is your logo!
Let’s see in detail what are the 8 key points in designing a successful logo:
- Colours
Colours have a great effect on the customers’ psychology. They act as a message to the subconscious, passing on the goals of your business to the public more easily. You see … every color is directly related to different emotional reactions. So the question you need to ask yourself first is: “What kind of emotions do I want to convey with my logo?”. * (we will analyze more about the choice of colors in a future article). - Black & White
It is equally important that the logo is easily recognizable even if displayed on a black and white scale. In this case, you should consider whether it will refer to its original appearance, but also how easy it is for the viewer to make the connection. - Design proportions
A well-designed logo should be immediately perceptible, balanced and to form a complete composition so that it can be placed in any application. It should be defined by clear boundaries, contain clear shapes and lines, without unnecessary information. - Dimensions
A logo should be easily customizable, in order to be used in as many applications as possible. Its original form may be easy to place on the company’s business cards, but is it as visible as a social media icon? - Hidden message
Stimulate the viewer’s interest, sparking his imagination. Make the customer to want to find out what is hidden behind your logo. Take for example the well-known Swiss chocolate factory “TOBLERONE”. The triangular beige logo forms Mount Matterhorn, but on the slopes of the mountain a bear-symbol of Bern-site of the company is revealed. Along with the name, there are the letters that form the name of the city TOBLERONE. - Timelessness
When designing a brand, timelessness must be taken seriously. The first form in which your logo will appear is the most decisive! Over time, it may go through a process of modernization, but the central idea and key elements must remain intact, for reasons of recognition. - Uniqueness
Each new logo should not resemble any previous one, so there is no possibility of mental confusion by the public. Αvoid any kind of trivial and prefer differentiation. - Simplicity
“Less is more”. A logo should be simple, without much of an impression. Its main role is to be recognizable and simplicity is the means to achieve this.
